Re: Are all changes bad?

:D The good news is that there are many players who believe that the sun rises and sets in Nazareth. You'll have interested buyers. Here’s an interesting and shocking bit of news: Last night I talked to a seller on Craig’s list about a 2010 Martin D-18 GE with a dark burst. He talked me outta buying...

Re: Are all changes bad?

Randall, I'm pretty sure the dark sunburst is a style 2. I've only had one a D1a.... & we didn't call it anything. I called Collings and sent them a photo of my friend's 1937 D-18 shadetop....& they copied it. The D3 model would have the bound neck and headstock (& abalone rosette) Than...

Re: Are all changes bad?

Thanks, Bob. I feel as you do and if this year model 2000 Adi topped Martin sounded at least close to my Sitka 2008 D2H-SB then I wouldn’t have been concerned—since I know I’d be keeping it for a good long while, but it doesn’t sound anywhere as good. Which means I’ll likely be selling it sometime i...

Re: Are all changes bad?

Thanks, Greg.
Keep me straight on all Collings data. What did Bill call a dark tobacco burst?

That’s too bad. I like what the Ts have to offer, but really want an older Collings; so I don’t have to wait for aged tone as arthritic hands may not allow me to play ten years from now.

Re: Are all changes bad?

PS
And yes, if I do end up with a great sounding 90s D1AT or D1A with 1 3/4” nut then I’ll definitely be slotting the bridge, since I doubt I’d ever be selling it.
I’ve had to have a bridge plate pin hole repair done to one of my bygone Martins.

Re: Are all changes bad?

All very good answers. Thanks guys. At this point, what I think I want to do is make a trade with someone who wants an all original(for now?)Martin LSV for a 90s Collings D1AT having a dark burst top. And white purfling up the neck and around the head. And has super tight growth rings throughout the...

Are all changes bad?

Here’s a question that may spark a keg of interest, but I’m about to make a small, yet needed , imo, change to the bridge of my new 2000 Martin HD-28 LSV. Now I know two things: dyed in the wool instrument traditionalists will not like any changes made to any guitar, especially one that is built to ...

Arm dampener

In my first and recent post I told y’all about an exceptional 2008 D2H-SB that I got last week. My first Collings. Please explain to me why this guitar has absolutely no noticeable volume or tone change when I rest my average sized arm on the bout while playing. Is this something magical Bill accomp...

Re: Finally!!! D2H-SB

Thanks, Tom! I love this new axe and have enjoyed reading posts from this forum. Hope to be able to stick around some! I have a bit to learn about Collings guitars. The rural area I’m from no one I know, personally, has one, so I will have to get all my info here. While out gigging or publicly jammi...

Re: Finally!!! D2H-SB

Thanks for the info, bro! Think I’m good with what Eric said about the top and happy to know about the binding being a custom option. Would’ve been a bit cooler if it was Adi, but as good as it sounds wouldn’t matter to me if the top was made of petrified American cheese .;) Was wondering what Colli...
