Re: Any significant difference in sound between mahogany and Figured mahogany?
Anyone have any experience with Collings' figured mahogany?
I've owned Collings OMs with plain mahogany and figured mahogany; they're all great guitars, but I couldn't detect a significant difference in their voices, other than the normal individual variation one would expect to find between ...

Re: Need advice on string height
Hi John,
It's hard to tell without a photo, but if you're measuring action height from the bottom of the 6th string to the top of the 12th fret and you're reading 3/16", that's about double what most folks would call a normal action. It's not normal for a Collings Traditional model: factory spec ...

Re: CJKA - Lacking Tone
I can recommend Dana Sutcliffe as a Delaware luthier; he's done superb setup work on several Collings for me.

Re: Options and differences.
The classic models? Great, especially a wonderful OM1Mh . The T models? Great, especially a wonderful OM1T . Baked? I refer baked Sitka to raw Sitka . Neck profiles? VN works great for me, and a custom VN that's 0.015" deeper at the first fret is even better . And any other attributes. They've still ...

Re: Baked Vs Regular Sitka?
After comparing a dozen OMs, three builders, Sitka and Adirondack, baked and unbaked, I prefer baked. Just my two cents.

Re: Collings Case Vs. Calton
Here’s my two cents: I have guitars in cases made by Collings, Collings-branded TKL, Ameritage, Canadian Calton, Texas Calton, Hiscox, Hoffee, and Accord. I keep digital temperature and relative humidity sensors in all of them, and in the house they all control temperature and humidity equally well ...

Re: New truss rod arrangement on Traditionals - Noticeable difference?
I was wondering what difference folks have experienced between the two designs? Is it a significant difference?
Thanks
I've owned OM1Ts with both neck support designs, and I couldn't hear a difference that was distinguishable from the ordinary minor differences in voice between any two guitars ...

Re: om/string gauge
Here's what the Collings website says -
"For small bodied guitars (Baby, OM*, 0, 00, 000, C10), we use:
J16s - light gauge (.012, .016, .024, .032, .042, .053).
For large bodied guitars (D, CJ, DS, SJ, Archtop), we use
J17s - medium gauge (.013, .017, .026, .035, .045, .056).

Re: Change in Adhesive on T Models
I too can not tell the difference. I wonder if any of these "experts" have ever conducted a true blind test where the listener had no idea which guitar they were listening to?
Not exactly, but I can come close. In early 2020 I had an OM1T (306nn) built with a custom neck profile, and in July of ...
