It's hard to tell without a photo, but if you're measuring action height from the bottom of the 6th string to the top of the 12th fret and you're reading 3/16", that's about double what most folks would call a normal action. It's not normal for a Collings Traditional model: factory spec ...

After comparing a dozen OMs, three builders, Sitka and Adirondack, baked and unbaked, I prefer baked. Just my two cents.

Here’s my two cents: I have guitars in cases made by Collings, Collings-branded TKL, Ameritage, Canadian Calton, Texas Calton, Hiscox, Hoffee, and Accord. I keep digital temperature and relative humidity sensors in all of them, and in the house they all control temperature and humidity equally well ...

I was wondering what difference folks have experienced between the two designs? Is it a significant difference?

I've owned OM1Ts with both neck support designs, and I couldn't hear a difference that was distinguishable from the ordinary minor differences in voice between any two guitars ...

Here's what the Collings website says -

"For small bodied guitars (Baby, OM*, 0, 00, 000, C10), we use:
J16s - light gauge (.012, .016, .024, .032, .042, .053).

For large bodied guitars (D, CJ, DS, SJ, Archtop), we use
J17s - medium gauge (.013, .017, .026, .035, .045, .056).
