Re finish a Collings OO

A very good friend of mine based in LA has a mahogany 00 he inherited, unfortunately he say's the front of the guitar has had the finish melted by something obnoxious being spilled on it. He is looking to have the body re-finished, has tried Col...

Re: Waterloo finish - what do you call it?

Lowdens used to have a similar satin finish, after 25 years playing & polishing mine has turned gloss pretty much all over,
Would love to see a Waterloo in a few years time.

early dark sunburst.

Re: 00- 12 fret - Collings red-headed stepchild?

I would really love a 002h and in a perfect world it would be a full dark sunburst, but before that happens
a Blazer & Henkes & a couple of other 14 fret dreads will have to go out the door.

Re: String preferences and suggestions.

This may sound like heresy, but I recently tried an old set of GHS pure nickel roller wound electric strings I had lying around spare, on a small vintage 12 fret guitar & much to my surprise they worked beautifully, gauge 12-54. Have been using John Pearse nickels for many years now so I suppose the...

My sentiments exactly Andy, I also find Collings necks extremely comfortable to play, lovely shape & feel & fret board radius is perfect too.
Would love to get hold of an 00 version to try one day.

One here, DS2H bought new in earls 2000 also from the Acoustic Centre in Brum. Superb guitar in every way & now the only dreadnought I can play comfortably due to a neck &shoulder problem.
