Re: 14 fret slopes.. What ya got?
Buck, thanks for sharing The Judge! I learned something today. :) Well, it's not like they're exactly plentiful. Judge is a talented builder and repairman, but like other talented builders I can think of he does have a day job. In addition to his acoustic builds, he does a significant amount of rep...

Re: 14 fret slopes.. What ya got?
I had a '48 J-50 a few years back. Probably should have held onto that one. Today I have this recent build from Judge Wolfe. Great guitar and great builder. Woods from John Arnold and the Hamptons, along with a 'graveyard black locust" bridge plate. Very happy to have this one. :-) J-35 on the ...

Re: posture and seating
I have a Pick-N-Glider in our multipurpose room where I record, but about any straight backed chair will do. If I'm sitting a long time, a padded seat or pillow is appreciated, but I don't sit on soft/sinking couches. That's terrible for posture. To that point, I like to put the guitar on my right l...

Re: truss rod adjustment
You need to measure the relief. If the relief is correct, you should not be adjusting the truss rod to change the action. The change in action you described is more likely due to the additional torque on the top than it is the relief changing. Long story short, many (most I suspect) truss rods adjus...

Re: Suda D-18
Hadn't been familiar with his work before. That is a beautiful instrument. I can't wait to hear it. There's a reason I've kept a day job, but here are a couple of recordings. Different songs, but the only change between when I made them is that the second recording has Antique Acoustics bridge pins...

Re: Suda D-18
I bought it used. It was signed on the underside of the top last June and finished in time for the IBMA. It's one of a pair made at the same time. Kenny Smith has the other one.

Suda D-18
Thought I'd share a recent acquisition here, and maybe see if anyone else experience with Mr. Suda's work. I'd heard of these, but never had my hands on one. The fact that Kenny Smith, Chris Eldridge, Josh Williams all play them didn't help abate my curiosity. I've had it for less than a day, but ...

Re: Collings Playability
I agree with all your comments Todd and have wondered specifically about the bold-faced comment on fret height and those using an iron grip, but wasn’t familiar with stock fret wire geometry. Your observation could explain it. Wouldn’t a good setup control the influence of the saddle? Regarding the...

Re: Collings Playability
In my mind, "playability" vs. "playing stiff" are two different things. Some people have even developed a preference for one over the other. While many things affect the feel (soft vs. stiff) I think saddle height may be one thing driving the perception that Collings guitars play...

Re: Collings bridge pins
I much prefer the lighter weight StewMac pins.
