Happy New Year all! I had an amazing 2023 - got a 001A 12-fret and a I30LC (60's neck carve). I am a happy guy! Now I just need to spend 2024 practicing!

Re: old growth sitka option
Thanks pto! My understanding is that this new stash is from an extra old sitka spruce that was cut down and that it is not reclaimed. They have said that it reminds them of torrified sitka. I was surprised about the enthusiasm with new builds since they have decades of experience with Adi and German...

old growth sitka option
Hey all, I have been hearing some buzz about a relatively new option from Collings: old-growth sitka. This is not the Alaskan Blue reclaimed stuff that they used in a few guitars a year or so ago but something new (at least I think it is new). The folks in the shop seem to be pretty crazy about it (...

Thanks for the thoughts everyone! My favorite Collings wood combo is definitely Adi/Mahogany and it looks like it should be here in June (or thereabouts).

Re: new Collings build
Thanks Greg and Flaky! I am hoping it will be my couch companion for the 2023 MLB season. I have to be playing an instrument when watching baseball!

new Collings build
Hey all, I am having a new Collings built starting in a month or 2 and am looking for input. For the time being, I am planning on ordering a 001A (12 fret) non-traditional with a 1 and 3/4 nut width. First of all, the guitar has to be comfortable to play on the couch and has to have the standard thi...

Strings for open E - I30LC
Hey all,
I have playing some tunes in open E tuning and I am concerned about the extra tension. Do folks think it is okay to continue to use the D'Addario 11-49 set that was originally on the guitar or should I use a slightly lighter set?
Thanks in advance!

Re: truss rod adjustment
Thanks West! I plan on following this exactly. One question: do you feel like a luthier needs to sand the saddle or do you think a non-luthier can do it and make sure the bottom of the saddle does not have an angle?
