Re: Buying 1st Collings Assistance

I believe the op is Mike Quibble, who's a regular on the UMGF. Mike, I think you will like Collings guitars. Yes, the T models will sound more like the Martins you are used to, but here's a consideration for you: a D-1A Varnish. Maybe the pandemic has changed things, but I recall seeing several used...

Re: OO2H T

Nick, it's beautiful, and I am thinking of one for myself. Did you consider the 000 as well? Also, it seems like the 00's I see are more expensive than the 000's. Is this correct, and if so, why would that be? Any comments welcome. Thanks, Rob The Traditional models are more expensive than the stan...

Re: OM T changes

The Music Emporium recieved a D-2HTG and an OM-2HTG this fall. The OM has been sold, but there's a clip of it on YOUTUBE. The OM sounds great. Here's the clip: https://youtu.be/WFpR3hZryuE

Re: C10-35 Thoughts

I have it's big brother, the CJ-35G. It's actually quite versatile, but it does not sound like a vintage J-35. I'd expect the C10-35 would be similar. With the German top, it really accentuates the Collings signature cut and clarity. I think of it as a Collings with a Gibson accent. Of course, the C...

Re: N(U)GD - 2017 Collings D1A Traditional

Congrats! I haven't had the chance to play a D1AT yet, but it's on my radar. Mahogany Collings guitars just have "it".

Re: OM1-A Varnish "High Upkeep"

I own a 2011 Collings 000-1A Sunburst Varnish, and I haven't had any trouble with the finish. I will say that it does not have the typical Collings mahogany/Adirondack tone. Instead it has more depth to the sound, yet it still retains the projection and volume that you would expect. If you like the ...

Re: Dreadnought for fingerpicking blues

The D1A makes for a very good fingerstyle guitar. As for varnish, my only experience with it is a 000-1A Varnish that I own. The varnish makes a big difference in terms of sound. To me, it gives the guitar a much warmer tone, but it will still have the typical Collings volume and projection.

Re: 14 fret slopes.. What ya got?

I have the identical Collings CJ35G, and it's been my favorite. Slopes I've owned in the past: 1946 Gibson Southern Jumbo, 1951 Gibson Southern Jumbo, 1998 Bourgeois Martin Simpson, and a 1994 Gibson Roy Smeck Reissue. I'm very partial to Collings, so the CJ35 has been my favorite that I've ownes. B...

Re: What Guitars do you have that you wish you could get by Collings?

A Larson style guitar in their traditional line. Perhaps a Waterloo version of a Stella 12 string? Or a Recording King Carson Robison Jumbo?
