Re: Favorite Collings tonewood combo
I have a' '93 sitka/rosewood D-2H, a '96 ad/mahogany D1A, and a '03 sitka/maple SJ. All of them are perfect combinations for what they do. For the rosewood guitar I prefer sitka over adirondack because it adds a warmth and resonance; for the D1A the adirondack complements the dry mahogany sound prof...

Re: Tell me about your Collings OM1
I don't have an OM-1 but do have three Collings guitars. Responding to your inquiry about an OM-1, this was Pete Huttlinger's signature guitar when he was alive, and as well now Julian Lage's guitar. So I think that you will be very satisfied. I do prefer the mahogany end of the sound spectrum for f...

Re: rockbridge guitars
Don't know their business model. I have visited the shop, now in Charlottesville, VA. I think there are about 4 people working there. Randal Ray works offsite. You will find some used Rockbridges around. My favorite Rockbridge is the SJ model. I had one before Dave Matthews made that model their fla...

Re: What’s your earliest Collings?
I have a '93 D2H. Had it since 1994. Great guitar, very light. I also have a '96 D1A that is much heavier than the D2H. I would have expected the mahogany guitar to be lighter.

Re: New Collings SJ
I do notice that the older models, mine for example, have Schaller tuners and are trimmed in tortoise instead of ivoroid. Don't know when that change occurred.

Re: New Collings SJ
Interested in this thread because I just picked up a 2003 SJ Maple/Sitka cutaway. The guitar had hardly been played. So, I have a close to 18 year old Collings that looks brand new. I have two other Collings guitars, a '93 D2H and a '96 D1A. The SJ is a very different sounding guitar. Currently I ha...

Re: rockbridge guitars
I have a 2008 Ad/Mahogany, koa bound SJ that I love. It has been played in, nicks and bumps all over it. I find that people either love or don't like Rockbridge. They have a unique sound. Just finished sitting here playing for about two hours.
