The Missing Traditionals

Reading some of the posts here re traditionals reminds me that I have been awaiting a huge attack of GAS at the launch of the 0002hT (my favourite model). To date though I’m still waiting. Over the 10+ years I’ve been a Collings fan a lot of models have had a redesigned option - C10 to C35, CJ to CJ...

Re: Same body, different woods?

A lovely pair- think that does answer the question! I’d not heard of higuerilla but looks very nice indeed.

Re: Same body, different woods?

Thanks- interesting thoughts. Everyone has mentioned another builder. Would you consider a model from the same builder?

Same body, different woods?

Would you consider buying an identical body size but with a different tone wood on the back and sides? For example if you had a rosewood guitar would you consider the same but with mahogany?

I am wondering how different it would be. Thanks

Re: om/string gauge

I think it depends on the type of bridge you have: a pyramid bridge is up to 12s and a belly bridge can go to 13s. Probably best to check with Collings though- consequences of too much tension could be nasty!

Re: 10 year check up?

I had my Collings looked at after about 10 years. The frets were worn and it had a run on a plek machine. Results were fantastic: playability and tone both improved. I would definitely have a check up. Any decent repair person will be able to advise- might well be an easy fix. As mine told me- Colli...

Re: Repaired top crack(s)- effect on sound

I have an old 1930s Stella concert which has a repaired top crack, side crack and some issues near the neck. Despite this it is amazingly loud (compares well to my Collings) and resonant - the tone is amazing. Lots of factors for sure but the cracks don’t seem to be affecting it unduly.

Re: Off Spec Affect On Value

I am not sure about the value but a paddle headstock and 1.75 nut is a mod I’ve seen a few times on 12 fretters. Might actually be an advantage for those who don’t like the wider nut.

Re: FORUM INTRODUCTIONS

Hi All I’m Matthew. Very pleased to see this forum back in action. I learnt so much from the previous one - it was an education. I love my 2008 0002h which seems to get better and better the more I play it. Living in England Collings’ prices are eye-watering at the moment so feel very lucky to have ...
