Re: Collings OM1 - Red Mountain Cedar/bs & Sitka
Congratulations on a great pickup. There is something special about a guitar that has been especially made from carefully selected tonewood.
Working with special materials seems to bring out the best in skilled craftsmen.
I hope that you enjoy your new guitar for many years.

Re: Strings
My issues were that JPs often arrived looking corroded and were very short lived. JP string are packaged in paper envelopes and sets are then placed in a plastic sleeve. The result is not air tight. If they are stored incorrectly or for long periods of time they will age poorly. I only buy from a h...

Re: Strings
Welcome. We're glad to have you. After a lot of trial and error I keep my D2h (as well as my D18-V) strung with John Pearse New Mediums 710. They are a hibred set like the bluegrass strings. I love the tone they produce. They stay in tune very well and are very durable still sounding good weeks late...

Re: Neck Reset
Something I learned on the Collings Factory Tour. If you or your luthier does need to remove the neck Collings will send you new wood plugs to cover the ones removed to access the nuts holding the neck on. No charge.

Re: Neck Reset
Never needed one but it logically would be easier than on a Martin. Collings necks are attached be means of a Mortise and Tenon Joint and are Bolted in place. You can reach the nuts for these bolts through the sound hole and can loosen them and then remove the neck. Many other guitars including Mart...

Re: Neck Reset
After 9 years a neck reset is probably not needed.
What is probably needed is a professional Set-up. You local Luthier or Guitar Tech can probably bring your guitar back to specs for a hundred bucks or so.

Re: Effect of picks on sound.
There are probably 50 different picks on my music stand. I like being able to try different picks for different sounds. The pick can really make a difference. I have a wallet that has slots for 2 picks. I carry my favorites in case I run into a guitar that needs playing. It is especially important i...

Re: Pre-War Guitars Co - looking for opinions
Bill Collings did not set out to produce guitars that sound like early Martins or Gibsons. He wanted to produce his own sound. Most of us here love it. Others are critical because it doesn't sound enough like an early Martin or Gibson. Pre-War Guitar set out to produce guitars that do sound like tho...
