That is funny because I do the exact opposite on my OM1A and D1AT. I use a 13 and a 17 on the E and B and then a light set for the rest. To me it sounds more balanced that way with fatter trebles (and less jangly) but to each his or her own! That is part of the fun in string experimentation....

Have you tried Pearse New Mediums? Also, Just Strings sells single strings for Pearse and D'addario. So you could experiment that way. What strings are you currently using?

I have a 2004 MT2 that I play nearly every day. A lot of other mandolins have come and gone, but not my MT2. It's been refretted and also back to the Collings shop for PLEKing. A broken-in MT2 is a wonderful thing!

Thank you so much for bringing this forum back! I have missed it over the past several months. It was part of my morning ritual with my coffee and news. Oddly enough my GAS was in remission while the forum was down.
