Re: CW Mha neck specs?

A short email to Collings should give the answer. They have always responded quickly to my questions.

Re: NAMM 2020

Played a few of the acoustics yesterday. Of course too much noise to make anything like a genuine evaluation, and couldn't give a sense of the guitars--except for one. Maybe just the nature of maple guitars to cut through the drone, but the fully torrified maple C10, though the action was higher tha...

Re: NAMM 2020

Along with the JL satin finish available on all T series guitars and the 0014 in standard and Traditional models, Collings announced a CL Deluxe electric in acid washed charcoal. (More coming, I assume, tomorrow.)

Re: What polish/wax do y’all use?

Once a year or so I use a bit of Music Nomad's The Guitar One: otherwise an occasional wipe with a clean cotton t-shirt barely damp with distilled water.

Re: Label Removal

I'd never remove a label with Bill's signature--pretty much like having an autographed guitar by someone I think the most important luthier of my time. But the newer labels? To me they're just labels, and if I felt they needed to go to make the guitar look better: well they'd go.

Traditional Cases Now Available

This afternoon received an email from Collings, as I expect most others have, that the Traditional cases are now available for ordering directly from Collings. Cases available are for D, OM, CJ, 0 14-fret, 0 12-fret, Parlor, A-style mandolin, and two listed as sold out (but I imagine will be availab...

Re: Strings on your D (1-3)

Yesterday put on the CJ35G a set of Martin (MA545) SP medium/light 92/8 phosphor bronze. These strings pretty much split the difference in size throughout the strings between lights and mediums. I wanted to see if I could get the blend of benefits of lights and mediums, and the Martin strings get me...

Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound

So Paul, with some mild paranoia I just checked on my three Collings. No phantom rattle at all anywhere with the OM1A or the CJ35G. I do hear what you're hearing with my OM2G--BUT not on the third fret with a G chord. I hear it on the low E string when vigorously plucked open, a sort of vibration ec...

Re: Strings on your D (1-3)

Have gone back and forth the last two years with lights (EJ16s) and mediums (EJ17s) on my CJ35. I find it's not simply a choice based on ease of play, but of which tone I prefer. Most of the time I prefer the tone of the lights, particularly for accompanying vocals. It's not as rich a sound as the m...
