Re: OM2HT vs Julian Lage OM1A

Tough decision, but a fun one to make. I ultimately go with the mahogany. I own a OM3 Adi/Madi Varnish & the OM1A JL. I like the JL slightly better for vocals. I’ve only had the chance to play (1) OM2HT and it was of the same level of the guitars in my stable. It was “Drier” than my OM3, more Tr...

Re: Direct comparison between standard ad "T" models?

I copy pasted parts of a OM1A vs OM1A JL comparison I did a while back... JL is less “in your face,” i.e. doesn’t have the BOLD tone Collings is known for, but is perhaps more subtle and sweet. Julian spoke about a “balance” between the neck and body in a promotional video, and I think the design is...

Re: C10-35 Thoughts

It’s a model that I wanted to love, but after test driving a couple, passed on. Unless you are set on a C1035, I would consider a Waterloo as an alternative option. Similar size, drier tone, lighter, & a fraction of the cost. I don’t think there is much you could do w/ the C1035 that a Waterloo ...

Re: Thoughts on the OM1T

While it's not the "T," I have an OM1a JL. Love the guitar. I played an OM1A for years prior. On the plus side verse the OM1a, the JL is more responsive and has a slightly more scooped EQ to its tone, more bass, and a more fundamental "dry" tone. Less Collings sparkle and a littl...

Re: What polish/wax do y’all use?

A couple years ago, I stopped using polish altogether.
This came after a chat w/ the folks at Collings and hearing that Bill Collings got irritated by polishes getting into his finishes. I’ve got a varnish Om3 & a satin OMJL, neither finish requires anything other than a damp microfiber cloth.

Re: Joined the OM1A JL Club

I had a tough decision between keeping my OM1A or buying the JL. I went back and forth for a few months. Eventually decided on the JL. Both are great guitars. For a while, I had both under the same roof and I posted some thoughts on the acoustic guitar forum. I'll share here as well: "The JL I ...
