Re: Small-bodied Collings - flatpick

Dan, I waited years for a 14 fret 00. They've only recently come out. With current prices, I won't be ordering one.....(they're more now than i paid for my '39 00-18 wideneck). I'd expect the 00 to be more open sounding than the 0. Still a comfortable small body and short scale.... a 001G would be a...

Re: Small-bodied Collings - flatpick

Dan, I've owned a 01a and a 0001G..... if i ordered a small guitar again i'd order a G. I really like the tone of old (75-80 y.o) Adirondack....but the German spruce responds so nicely to a light touch, and doesn't sound harsh when new. If you haven't compared neck profiles... here's the standard mo...

Re: Question on 1999 D-1 Pins...

My first D1A was a late 99, early 2000. I subsequently had the popsicle brace removed and the bridge slotted to take solid pins

Re: Am I Being Too Picky?

Quality/fit has been a problem with TKL for years. In 2015, both Mark Althans & I had 0 size guitars (in the era before Bill began his case dream) & the lids on the TKL didn't fit without a big nudge & the flat bail latches were a pain. In the years since, I've bought a bunch of $100 cas...

Re: Why are so many baked and traditional guitars up for sale?

It is interesting that the majority of acoustic guitars being sold this year are either baked tops or traditional line guitars. What gives as there can't be nearly as many of these guitars out there as the standard line? It seems to me that a lot of the newest guitars get flipped.....so that accoun...

Re: What Guitars do you have that you wish you could get by Collings?

Georgelange, I can't imagine Collings doing a D-35 type guitar.....since it's not a traditional design, but one Martin came up with due to a shortage of wood for 2-piece backs in the mid '60s

Re: Collings Case Vs. Calton

Trav, you'll find that an empty Calton weighs more than your Collings case with a guitar in it.....

Re: 14 Fret 0 Size

i had an 01avn for several years. It was a great travel guitar and excellent playing with fiddles. Lots of clarity, power & focus. These days, since Collings makes them i'd go with a 001GT (14 fret)....traditional build, german top. I've had several 00 size Martins 75 to 80 yrs old with adironda...

Re: Collings baked Adi tops

Northernbreed, I've also played Collings for a long time. Although i don't own a 'baked' Collings, I did own a Pre*War 000-18 with a torrified red spruce top. It was a terrific guitar. At the same time i had an OM1aJL and a '38 000-18. If i were able to try out a bunch of Collings at the same time, ...

Re: Buying 1st Collings Assistance

jklotz, Back in the day Collings did make some cedar topped guitars in the early 2000s. If i remember correctly, there were apparently some issues with bridge adhesion & Bill decided not to build any more cedar topped models.
