Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound
That sounds like it might be a simple setup issue that could be handled inexpensively by a local tech. Worth checking out with a local repair shop.

Re: Re finish a Collings OO
I’m not sure where you are, but I was looking to have a guitar refinished I asked people at The Music Emporium who they use. I decided to sell the guitar instead, but The Music Emporium uses and recommended — http://retrograde-guitars.com/

Re: Strings on your D (1-3)
Someone posted about a new GHS string on AGF sold by Strings By Mail called Thin Core Phosphor Bronze. https://www.stringsbymail.com/acoustic-guitar-strings-7/ghs-20/thin-core-phosphor-bronze-11608/ The GHS Thin Core supposedly has less tension and a round core that — “ allows you to have big sound ...

Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound
gosh - i tried all of my Collings - no such sound traceable to the bridge. See my earlier post (#1416). Just for the record — the luthier, tech and dealer (and me) do not think it’s a fret buzz. But agree it can be coming from just about anywhere, and the sound seems like it comes from the lower bo...

Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound
Just to update — Mark Althans was kind enough to call me and is looking into it. Once again I’m reminded of why I love Collings & their commitment to customer satisfaction, design & details. As an aside, I’ve found the faint “rattle” sound is even more faint with medium gauge strings. So I’l...

Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound
Out of curiosity, do you guys bend your strings near the ball end before inserting them into the bridge (not an uncommon practice)? Could it be that the bend is greater than the actual break angle once the ball end is inserted, and under heavy force it's vibrating against the bridge pins? An un-ben...

Re: Collings Idiosyncratic sound
Yes I have experienced the exact same thing with my OM2G I bought in April. It's a very, very faint "vibration rattle" that emanates from the bridge area. My only realistic reasoning was maybe one of the string slots that holds the ball end of the string is just barely loose enough that i...

Collings Idiosyncratic sound
I know most on this forum are Collings fans (like me) and wanted to ask you about your experience with what seems like a Collings idiosyncrasy. I’ve been tempted to post this in the past, but 1) I didn’t want people to obsess 2) didn’t want to inspire brand bashing. But then I figured I would post i...

Re: Collings D2HA Varnish High E String "Falling" Off The Edge Of The Fretboard
Is this guy for real ? If i wanted to read juvenile borderline racist and xenophobic drivel I’d just head over to any number of the other open non-moderated guitars forums. Collings guitars and a forum dedicated to their work deserve better than this. Good bye. Kris I agree, I was suspicious, but g...
