Re: Low action! Collings OM1
The action on my D2H is similar: a shade below 3/32 and 2/32. I had shaved the saddle a bit more than I intended, but it's been this low for a decade now and suits me just fine.

The Music Emporium in Lexington, MA now has a 2016 edition of this guitar available. Just an FYI.

Re: truss rod adjustment
Do you feel like a luthier needs to sand the saddle or do you think a non-luthier can do it and make sure the bottom of the saddle does not have an angle? Dan Frank Ford's "frets.com" website has a great tutorial on DIY saddle height adjustments, complete with photos. (Many other great DI...

Thanks for the pictures, and your good response to Frank's great question. Maybe that will help me stay with just my fabulous I-35LC.

Re: Neck Reset
I should have thought to post this sooner. When it was barely 3 years old, my 2005 OM1A buzzed a little on the first and second strings when fingering at the 10th fret and higher. My tech (formerly at Gryphon) adjusted the truss rod slightly, which reduced but didn't eliminate it, and he showed wher...

Re: Quick Gryphon visit
Thanks for your post! I guess "the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond"! I agree that a number of U.S. luthiers are making great guitars in the Martin tradition. Similarly, Blazer and Henkes were fortunate to get their hands on older Gibson and Martin guitars, and learned...

Quick Gryphon visit
Unusual circumstances allowed me a too-rare visit in October to Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto, CA, to purchase a travel guitar (Taylor GSMini mahogany, which is loads of fun). With that accomplished, I played nearly every Collings in stock then, plus a Franklin OM (beautiful soft trebles on that). I ...
