Re: Any other 12 fret freaks out there?

Well! on week and not one response.

Does that mean no interest, or too few members?

What would WE like to see by Waterloo?

So friends, we have seen the various versions of the WL series, and now the new archtops and mandos which are being discussed on other threads. So, just for fun, let's discuss what we would like to see come out with Waterloo written on the headstock. I'm not imposing any rules on this, but rather th...

Re: Waterloo mandolins

Hi guys, I guess I can understand the archtop guitars but flat top mandos ? Whilst I wish Collings every success, I can't envisage these being as much of a success as the flat-top guitars have been. I hope I'm wrong.

Any other 12 fret freaks out there?

I guess that anyone who has read my ramblings or seen my Youtube vids will know that I am a dedicated 12 fret freak. I realised this after being shown a Martin D35-S back in, around 1996. I have two DS2hs and two DS1s (one with Adi). My reason for loving these guitars is not about which fret coincid...

Re: Is Collings changing after Bill?

Hi, I'm in the UK, bought my first Collings in '99, and my last (a WL-12) in November '16, making six in all. I have spoken with Mark a number of times and also with Steve. I had the privilege of meeting with Bill in 2015 during his brief visit to the UK. I found him communicative, interesting and e...

Re: C10 v Waterloo LOO size

No I can't but I'm watching with interest.

I have a WL12, but was once sorely tempted by a C10, which was a delight.

Tho Waterloo is designed to sound like an old Kalamazoo or similar, which I think it does, but the C10 is designed to sound like a Collings which it does.

Re: Collings 0003 - German or Sitka over mahogany back & sides?

Thanks John B & O'l Andy; I also own both Sitka & German topped Collings 000's. Just none yet with mahogany back & sides. Like you as well Andy, I own a KILLER sounding Collings DS-1HSB. Also with a plain sitka top, but I couldn't ask for a better sounding "Banjo Killer" ( as ...

Re: Except for my Collings instruments....

My very fave guitars are my Collings DS models but I also have a 1964 Martin D12-20 which was rebuilt by Martins in 1998 with a D12-35 trim. https://youtu.be/0NXFR3-e25o and a Santa Cruz "RS" "Roy Smeck" It has the most beautiful sunburst I've ever seen, and the tone has taken so...

Re: Has anyone split strings?

Hi RNF, that's exactly what I do on my 12 fret dreads. I use D'addario ej17s and substitute the b and top e for light gauge - 12 & 16s. This is because I find the trebles a tad too harsh with 13 &17s and I like a slightly higher than normal action, so hence the lights. I realise that I could...
