I wonder if that is partially due to focus on archtops both in the Waterloo and Collings line now that is hose guys have so much practice carving :)

Bummer for the standard line but there are pluses, maybe.

I see them for $4,455.
That's much more than I paid for mine in 2001.

I am not even sure what constitutes Collings target market anymore. I feel like there are fewer and fewer people like myself who want to invest in 3+ Collings annually. Truth be told, I don't own 1 Collings right now. I'm getting back in the game soon, but I don't foresee buying 3-5 a year like I used to. Assuming they've raised prices 3-5%, I'm even more shy. I've approached Collings with a couple good ideas for custom builds, like a D1AT in the Julian finish, but was told no. I'd buy this guitar in a heartbeat if they'd accomodate it, but for now it's a lost sale. I wish Collings would do things like small batch runs of unique guitars, maybe like the D1AT I mentioned. This would have me paying attention. For now, the current offering is vanilla since I've owned just about everything.

I’m not bashing Collings because I love the company and their guitars. I’ve owned several and still own 2 + a Waterloo. But I do wish they were more flexible on Custom orders. For example, I ordered a C-100 with a 1-3/4” nut. When I requested a 2-5/16 string spacing at the bridge, I was told they couldn’t do it, maybe someday. It’s not a huge deal, so I’m ok with the 2-3/16” that’s coming. But in comparison, I ordered a custom SCHC and I got anything I asked for without hesitation.

Regarding the future of Collings, I expect great things will continue to come forth. Bill’s personal creative vision is lost and I have to wonder how much that will influence future developments. But I think the company is in good hands.

Collings has recently gone back on their mission to require the traditional case with every model.
i don't know if it was the MISSION originally to supply the Collings cases with the "non-Traditionals," if i remember correctly what Steve told me a few years ago. but, it did turn into the plan, and was advertised as such. the problem over the last year is that shipments were backing up, because they couldn't make the cases fast enough to keep up with the instruments (not surprising to me). instruments were being held at the factory, and dealers were chomping at the bit to get their guitars. this, according to a major Collings dealer (who was happy to have the option of getting shipments on time). so, the sensible, to me, decision was made to supply TKLs with the "original" line.

I wonder if there is now any potential to buy a new traditional without the traditional case, given demand? I doubt it. I think the traditional cases are great, but my needs have changed for needing one.
