Any other 12 fret freaks out there?
Re: Any other 12 fret freaks out there?
Oh yeah, and I've been a fan of your youtube videos for years Sir Mustache. Thanks for sharing them.

I'm a 12 fret fan as well, I have 4 and am slowly transitioning my stable to all 12 frets. The 12 frets I have are a Martin Custom Shop 000, Martin 000-17sm, Fender Paramount PM2, and recently a Collings DS2H. Like Andy, I prefer a wider nut, 1 13/16 or 1 7/8 suits me best. The Collings DS2H is a wonderful guitar, so easy to play and it sounds incredible.

Well, I was asking about interest in 12 FRET to body guitars, but I do have a Martin and a Harmony 12 string: https://youtu.be/X-mZOc1FGV8

I’m a 12 fret fan too. I like 12 fret 00’s. I have 3 of them.
On the Collings front I own 2 Waterloos WL-K and a Ladder braced WL14 plus a MTO Mandolin.

I love a good 12 fretter and own four at the moment including a Collings 000-2h and a Huss and dalton Ds-12 custom. I love the rounded and warmer tone you get from a good 12 fret guitar plus they are comfortable and look fantastic! I do miss the extra frets on occasion so thankfully have several 14 fret instruments when the need arises. Everyone should have at least one 12 fret guitar in their arsenal in my opinion.

I wonder whether any of y'all have played one of those 0000-sized Martin 12-fretters. Gruhn's has a bunch of them made out of sinker mahogany that are pleasing to the eye, complete with a lovely slot-head. (I know it's not a Collings, but I love a Martin too.) Here's one:

I think a 000 is about the perfect size, there's something about the fullness of a dread that's hard to compete with. I wonder where a 0000 falls in line, tonally and in terms of comfort and playability. Anyone seen one of these in the wild?

The 0000 is a great body size. I wish Collings made such a beast but they are not a popular size. They are essentially a dread that is not as deep and has a narrow waist. They take light strings so they are responsive but still give a large but not boomy sound.12Frets wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 6:08 pm I wonder whether any of y'all have played one of those 0000-sized Martin 12-fretters. If I were forced to pick just one of the fuller size guitars, the 0000 just might be my choice. The only downside that I have with them is that they are sometimes a little more of a balancing act to have on your knee because of the large bout and small waist. Not a problem but just different.

I totally agree with all of this Frank. I ordered a custom SCGC OMG, which is their 0000 model, and it is an incredible guitar. I wish Collings would add it to their lineup. Maybe Collings would consider offering a true “custom shop” option in the future. I bet Collings would make a terrific 0000.Frank Sanns wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 11:44 pmThe 0000 is a great body size.
