Any other 12 fret freaks out there?

I guess that anyone who has read my ramblings or seen my Youtube vids will know that I am a dedicated 12 fret freak.

I realised this after being shown a Martin D35-S back in, around 1996.

I have two DS2hs and two DS1s (one with Adi).

My reason for loving these guitars is not about which fret coincides with the body or the lovely slotted headstocks (Collings makes the best) but the fretboard width, due to my "FFTS" (fat fingertip syndrome).

So whilst most here, and on other fora come to that, talk about their 14 fret dreads, OMs and Jumbos, - I'm just wondering, am I really all alone in a world full of aliens or are there others who share my perverted taste for pre 1934 designs?

If any body wishes to see my video (and has 15-20 minutes to lose here is my video about my preferences (btw, I recorded this over a year ago when my mouth was still pretty deformed after the cancer treatment, so please bear that in mind):

Well! on week and not one response.

Does that mean no interest, or too few members?

So you have some company here Andy, I’ll comment. I own 10 guitars and 2 of them are 12-fret models, a 000 and a 00. I’m happy to have them and find they add nicely. I don’t have the fat necks you seem to prefer. Mine both have a 1-3/4 & 2-5/16 conformation. I find they are especially nice for fingerpicking, but play very nicely with a flat pick as well.

I have to play "Turn Turn Turn" at a funeral/memorial in April...feel free to loan me any 12 string of your choice and I may become a freak as well! 8-)

law, 12 frets, not 12 string.

Silly, my only 12 fret is my 1934 National Style O. All my 'wooden' guitars are 14 fret, which is mandatory for the kind and style of music I play.

Andy,

Minimal responses I'm sure reflect how slowly this new forum is growing--love to get it back to the weight of the old forum sooner rather than later.

Hi Paul, I've just red and responded to your AGF thread where you link to some great knowledge by Richard Hoover.

Might I suggest that you share them on this forum as well?

Yes John, but if we keep rambling on, we might get some more to join eh?

I guess I qualify. Right now my stable includes three 12-fretters: a Collings 0001A and a Martin 000-15S, both of which I've owned for more than a decade, and a Martin "D-12" (basically a custom shop D-28 with a mix of GE and Authentic appointments) that I bought about a year ago. I've been drooling over those 0000 12-fret sinker slot heads they're carrying over at Gruhn's, but I think I'd really like my next guitar to be a DS1A. That's been a long-term itch I've been hoping to scratch for years.

Then again, I've also been coveting one of those Northfield arch top octave mandolin lately too, so it's anyone's guess what my next instrument purchase might be.
