C-100

Back in July, Bruce VanWart and Bob Minner unveiled a couple of C-100 prototypes at Fretboard Journal. Has anyone heard more info about these entering production? I don’t think I ever saw Bob’s video...or maybe I did and just forgot.

Here’s the video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=u3d7izbaBZE

I haven’t heard anything other than what you heard, but I think it would be great if they brought these back. I’ve never fallen in love with the SJ, but I played two C-100s a long time ago, and they sounded great. One had koa back and sides, which really made a big impression on me. There’s one for sale at Mass Street Music - who knows, maybe it’s the one I played at Mandolin Brothers way back when:

Wow, that would be interesting! I hope it becomes a reality.

I actually heard from the factory last week that they hope to advertise them by the end of this year. Watch their website. And I imagine they’ll send out an email announcement.

I got an email from Collings today announcing that the C-100 is available again. I also saw that the Music Emporium has two on the way. Great news!

Got one on order. I went with a C100 Deluxe SB with 1-3/4 nut. The wait begins :D

Played a C-100 Deluxe briefly two days ago at Artisan. Wonderful guitar. Really hard to describe, and I hope I don't misrepresent it because of the short audition (I was primarily auditioning maple jumbos--the Collings SJ and Huss & Dalton MJ). Remarkably balanced, colorful, great individual string articulation without any stridency so it works as a great strummer, and delicate so it works as a terrific finger style guitar. I find myself in the same place when I try to describe the Collings OM2: though not with a huge startle factor or a dread's sheer volume, just a remarkably balanced, beautiful sounding guitar.

(Oh, though I loved the Huss & Dalton MJ; the Collings SJ for me has more character and life--I'm ordering one with a short scale and German top.)

John,

Thanks for the review. How would you compare the C100 to the SJ? And also how does it compare to the OM? Size wise I guess it falls between the two.
