Strings on your D (1-3)
Re: Strings on your D (1-3)
Yesterday put on the CJ35G a set of Martin (MA545) SP medium/light 92/8 phosphor bronze. These strings pretty much split the difference in size throughout the strings between lights and mediums. I wanted to see if I could get the blend of benefits of lights and mediums, and the Martin strings get me very close. They're maybe a little brighter than my imagined ideal, but they sound very, very good and do add body to the D'Addario lights I had been using without giving up their virtues. And to my surprise, I find them just as easy to play as the EJ16s I had on the guitar.

Another CJ35G here. For a long time I used MSP4100 p/b lights Martin strings. I still have several of those sets for gigging and such. But I decided to get some MA540 Martin 12-54 p/b strings.. the replacement for the MSP4100. I really like them on the CJ35G! Not as zinggy sounding. The guitar is flawless in every way.
The light Martin Retro strings on my Pre-War J took that guitar to another place! Wow.

tried the DR "Rare" 13-56 on my CJ35 and tuned it down a whole step.....its a thumper/ringer combo for sure

Jumping in on this.....
Due to hand problems, I'm experimenting with hybrid sets.
I just put a set of the Marin Retro Medium Lites - LJ's choice on my D1-T. Sweet!
I brought home a set of the D'Addario True Mediums for the D2HA-T. I have high hopes for these as well.

Someone posted about a new GHS string on AGF sold by Strings By Mail called Thin Core Phosphor Bronze. https://www.stringsbymail.com/acoustic- ... nze-11608/
The GHS Thin Core supposedly has less tension and a round core that —
“allows you to have big sound with a flexible feel. Achieve a thicker, beefier tone with strings that are easy to play. The thin core makes bending and vibrato effortless. This is a great string for playing fast and having a full sound.”
I bought a couple of sets of mediums, but haven’t strung them up yet. I’ll try them on my new C100 next string change.
