Satin Finish Changes

Hey All-

I posted this topic on the AGF but would like to hear from Collings owners in particular. I have a new D1ATS and there is an area that is slightly darker where my arm rests. Clearly it is from my arm being there- however it is not shiny, rather it looks as the spruce is changing color under the finish. Not a biggie to me, I am just curious if others are experiencing similar changes to their Collings satin finished guitars. https://imgur.com/HM61HiR https://imgur.com/RCH15AD

Thanks

I saw a collings Baby listed on Reverb last year that had worse staining than yours, and when I asked the same question, the consensus was it was caused by the chemicals in sweat. It should be wiped down every time after You play it. Wearing long sleeve shirts will also help.

I have 3 Satin finished Collings and none have discolored like yours.
I have played them a good bit but never really sweated on them. Or played outside much.

I would guess it’s your body chemistry reacting to the finish.

Mine have begun to turn glossy where I touch them most. Back of neck and the edges where my arm and leg touch.

You might reach out to Collings. They are very responsive and helpful.

sweat makes sense- but I always (and I mean always) use a microfiber cloth or wear a long sleeve shirt. So I am not sweating on the guitar. I will live with it because this guitar is the best sounding dread I have ever owned- including my other Collings.

I’d send an email to Collings and ask them directly. They’ve got great customer service and they never fail to answer emailed questions.

Hi Kris,
Just wondering, did you hear anything from Collings about the finish discoloration?
Thanks,
Vivian
