I've gone to my favourite 80/20 roundcore. They sound great
Re: Collings OM1ajl
i still have the factory nickel strings on the guitar. i really like them. i was told by my dealer that some people also like pyramid round core.
i can't imagine any strings sounding bad on this guitar.

yes. the adi top is an upgrade. the julian lage model also has a (1) new neck profile; (2) satin finish; (3) different neck joint.pjkesq wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:56 amdoes ajl stand for adirondack Julian Lange?Georgelange wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 3:40 am Anybody try different strings on this particular guitar?

Can you comment on the different neck joint? Wasn't aware there was a difference. Thanks!zeke wrote: ↑Mon Dec 17, 2018 6:36 pmyes. the adi top is an upgrade. the julian lage model also has a (1) new neck profile; (2) satin finish; (3) different neck joint.pjkesq wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:56 amdoes ajl stand for adirondack Julian Lange?Georgelange wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 3:40 am Anybody try different strings on this particular guitar?

Either did I.
Re: Collings OM1ajl
you guys are right! the website lists a OM-1JL and OM-1 as both having the "mortise and tenon hybrid" neck joint. i thought this was different from the "traditional" collings bolt-on neck.
that being said, it's surprising to me how different these guitars sound. i have both models, and they're very different. it must be the finish or the hide glue or both?

if my house was on fire, i'd grab the JL model and go. it's hard to describe the sound difference: drier, richer, warmer, more martin-like. it suits my finger-style playing well. i also like the 1-11/16" neck on it. try one if you can. note: i paid $2500 more for the JL guitar!rhafe123 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 5:06 pmWhich do you like best?zeke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 5:28 pm you guys are right! the website lists a OM-1JL and OM-1 as both having the "mortise and tenon hybrid" neck joint. i thought this was different from the "traditional" collings bolt-on neck.

one thing i haven't tried is putting the nickel strings on my OM-1. i can't imagine the strings make that much of a difference.
