kerrykrishna wrote: Thu Oct 18, 2018 3:34 pm Larry, Could you please do the Forum a favour, and start a thread over on AGF and put a link up to the new site? There were a bunch of threads asking what wasting on.
I just tried starting a new thread, but after posting it it disappeared. I think AGF has a policy that prohibits the mention of other forums, so that might be why. I don't remember seeing threads about the disappearance of the Collings forum on AGF. The Gear Page yes. But I'm not a member there.
I posted something at AGF as well -- it's goooone. Deleted. I've moderated about 5 forums and have never been presented with a policy where other sites cannot be mentioned. I honestly don't see why it should be competitive. The more the community is informed and connected the better. My $.02

I'm a member at The Gear Page -- I'll drop a post over there.

Iasked about the old forum on the AGF - I was "reprimanded (again) for mentioning a "competitve" forum ... for goodness sake.

It's a ridiculous rule at AGF, and I'm pretty sure that my announcement at UMGF has been deleted, too. I understand not wanting one forum's baggage to drift into others, but it's off limits to simply mention the existence of another community?

Hi Folks

I'm Michael. Been playing guitar (poorly) since about 1962. These days I just play for my own pleasure, not to please anyone else.

I used to own a Collings D1 that I loved, but I went through one of my phases of being disgusted with my playing and ended up selling or giving away all my instruments including the D1.

A few months back I decided I missed playing and got back into it with a surprisingly nice Yamaha FG830. Then I bought a Collings D2H. Man what a guitar!

Yesterday I bought a new Collings CJ-35 on Reverb and should receive it next week.

Nice to have the forum back. That's it for now.

Hello! It's just great to have the Collings Forum back. I had despaired of ever seeing it again and lo and behold here it is!

My name's Art and I've been playing for forty years or so, mostly old time and contra dance music with a little bit of brother act stuff thrown in. I've gotten to a stage in life where I'm still not much good as a musician but I can afford nice instruments to (not really) compensate for my lack of chops. Kind of like an old guy tooling around town in a Porsche. But what the hell- it's fun. So Collings it is for me, and I own a D2HA, OM2HA and a Waterloo WL-S Deluxe. All varnish. To top it off I own a seriously blinged-out MF-5 Deluxe V mandolin with a sticker under the top memorializing my Dad, whose life insurance policy from WW2 payed for a good chunk of it. Each of them is a wonderful instrumentand, and they are great fun to own and play.

I wish the data from the old site could be recovered but that sounds doubtful I guess. We'll just have to fill up the new one!

Hi,

My name is actually Bob and I was known as Hokiebob on the old forum and am again here. We live in Mint Hill, NC right outside of Charlotte.
I am privileged to be the caretaker of a Collings D2H from 2000, a Martin D18V built in the custom shop in 2004 and a Fender Galaxy 2 from 1983.
I learned to play the guitar while in college many, many years ago but then the demands of career and family saw me step away for number of years.
My son was teaching drums at a store in Pittsburgh and the family of one of his students couldn't pay their tab. They offered him a Fender Galaxy 2 as payment and he took it.
That became my Christmas present and I loved it and still have it. That led me to get back into playing and I had the pleasure of meeting, learning from and playing with
Trent Moody of the Moody Brothers. We both loved to hear a new country or rock song on the radio and then sit down and figure it out. That is still what I like to do.
I'm retired from education and when I am not playing my guitars or surfing the web I love to play golf and to hunt and I tolerate working out at the gym.
I'm married to a retired teacher and we have 2 children and 4 grandchildren who we spoil as much as we can.

I looked forward to starting my day with a visit to the old forum and I am so glad that this new one has been created. I hope that we can have the same civil discourse as we were used to on the old forum
and I bet that we will.

Hello all. I was amember on the old forum, though more of a reader than a speaker.
I was brought up in Staten Island, N.Y. and lived there for 55 yrs. before moving to Florida. I too bought guitars from Stan at Mandolin Bros. I have only one Collings a CJ mhss that I purchased in 2013, I also play a Martin 000-28ec, and a Gibson sj200, along with a number of electrics. Fender, Gibson, and Rickenbacker.
I'm so happy this forum has returned, it was always the friendliest and most helpful of any forums on the web. Thanks again.

I'm Bill Irwin. I was on the old site as Bill Irwin as well. I was one of the earlier ones. I play acoustic, and have a few Collings. Got my first one, a D2HSB, in '98. I always felt that Bill's genius went way further than any of us realize. I mean, I truly think he was an off the charts kind of mind. It's sad that he's not here to continue to come up with unbelievable new instrument ideas, and cases. I built an F style mandolin once. I had a blueprint, but I still didn't have an idea of just exactly what the scroll should look like, other than the front view. So, it was far from perfect. I mean FAR. Now, I already knew that Bill had little patience for bad instruments. But he was over-the-top nice, and even complimentary about it, and at the end of the day, he offered to supply wood for my next build. I never got around to number 2.

Anyway, I guess you can tell I'm a lifelong fan of Bill Collings.

Thanks for putting the site together guys.

Bill

Frank Sanns here (aka Forum Admin). I have both accounts. This is my personal one so I can interact in a non-administrator role in discussions on this forum.

I am located in Pittsburgh and am a chemist by profession and a good guitar player only in my dreams. Many guitars have been in these hands but Collings guitars are my favorite brand as a whole. My last acquisition was an OM1A Julian Lage. An unexpected purchase (aren't they all!) but a very refreshing one.

Glad to see so many familiar people on here as well as new ones.

Frank

Howdy folks - I'm Joe. I was on the old forum, but didn't post very often and can't remember what my username was. (HoustonPicker? maybe?) Anyhow, I'm a huge Collings fan, and have owned several over the years. Currently I've got a wonderful D1 and a 0001A in the stable. Both are lifetime keeper guitars.

Hey Bill! Good to see you online. Mark Ulrich and I get together for fiddle tunes a couple of times a month. I've been remiss in failing to invite you. I'll give you a ring the next time we do.

Best,
Joe

Thank you for bringing back the Collings Forum its great to be here. I'm in the travel business and live in Louisiana I have long been a fan of Collings guitars. I'm hoping to get a 360 ST in the future. My old username is the same as my current one.

Thanks again,
West
