00- 12 fret - Collings red-headed stepchild?
Santa Cruz has their Eric Skye 00. Martin has their 00-28VS, and puts out “celebrity” versions now and then. H&D gets a lot of respect for their 00-SP. But I rarely see Collings 00s, except for the all hog 001mh (which is one of the best all hog guitars made IMO). For their Traditional models, they went right to an 0 12-fret. The rare Collings 00s that I’ve come across were great guitars. So why so little love for the 00?
(And as for no 00 14-fret...)

I have liked some of the 00’s that I’ve played, better than 000’s. I’m hoping the next Traditional model is the 00. Has anyone heard rumors on the next T model?
I think the fact that it’s a 12-fret guitar limits its appeal to most players. Then if it has a 1-13/16” nut, that’s even more limiting. But they’re historical models and I think they’re nice looking guitars, especially with some abalone trim around the top.

I hope they come out with a traditional 00, with the 1 3/4” nut and 2 5/16” saddle spacing the traditional 12-fret 0 has.

I’d prefer mahogany, but hopefully they would offer both.

Godfrey, you've asked just the right question....what gives anyways? Of all the guitars I've owned or played (& that's a few), my favourite is a beat-up wideneck 14 fret '39 00-18. I really don't know the answer. 00 offer a lot of musical punch for a small body size. It really is the great mystery to me too, why Collings has never made one.....& you see very few of the 12 fret 00s either. A german spruce topped 14 fret mahogany with a vintage neck would be a real gem.....

I’m so envious of your 30s 14-fret Martin 00! I played one once and never forgot it. Unfortunately that ship sailed for me since prices for those have gone through the roof. I have a 41 0-18 that sounds amazing, but I could really use some extra space at the nut. I’d love for Collings to do their magic on an 00 the same way they’ve done it for the 0s.Greg Y wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 2:41 pm Godfrey, you've asked just the right question....what gives anyways? Just got one of these from 03. What an incredible guitar! Blues on open tunings, this guitar is unparalleled. It is comfortable to play and well balanced. A great addition to anyone’s stable.

I would really love a 002h and in a perfect world it would be a full dark sunburst, but before that happens
a Blazer & Henkes & a couple of other 14 fret dreads will have to go out the door.
