Most OM style guitars have a 1 3/4 nut. I see Collings has the OM2H with a 1 11/16 nut. Why is that?
Seems like on a finger style guitar the standard nut width would be 1 3/4?
OM and the 1 11/16 nut width?
Re: OM and the 1 11/16 nut width?
Collings doesn't market a 000 14 fret, so it seems that the OM is the generic catch-all for this body shape. It's not specifically used by finger-pickers. Collings offers it in both long and short scale and 1 11/16", 1 23/32 and 1 3/4" nut widths. Lots of players (singer/songwriters, flatpickers et al) use this body shape for its balanced tone. They just don't offer the JL in short scale & Julian's guitar that this was modeled after is a late '39 000-18 short scale with a 1 11/16" nut.

Re: OM and the 1 11/16 nut width?
I have an OM3HG with 1 3/4" nut and a D3 with 1 11/16" nut. I switch back and forth with no problem. If I'm going to finger/hybrid pick, it's always the OM. For some reason the D3 doesn't feel a lot smaller, which probably has to do with the D3 neck's profile. Both are very comfortable to play. As Greg said, the OM has become quite popular in the last 20 years and lots of players use it for purposes other than finger-style.

Re: OM and the 1 11/16 nut width?
I've been wondering how a mod V neck with 1 11/16 feels compared to my 01 that has a mod V neck with a 1 3/4 nut width. Wanting to get a OM1 short scale but seems like I can only get a hold of one with 1 11/16 so I'm on the fence.
