Waterloo Neck Option

I'm wondering about the "small profile" neck now being offered on the Waterloo models, in particular the WL14 X. I bought one of the first models when these came out, number 105, and was very happy with the neck, at the time. But, after a couple years with it, and a change in my other guitars, I'm finding the BIG neck harder and harder to play.

As much as I love the tone and the size, really just about everything about these guitars, I'm wondering if it's worth the cash to sell my current model and replace it with the small profile version. Is the neck really that much smaller?

For reference, I'm now playing and preferring a D1A Varnish with the standard neck profile, and a 290. These two are pretty similar in shape and size, and fit me quite well. If I could get a Waterloo with a neck somewhat similar to these two it would become just about the perfect guitar for me.

Anyone with experience with both the older, fat neck Waterloo and the new smaller version?

Hi,

I've played both and own a early Waterloo with the big V neck.
The smaller version on the WL-14 is still a big neck. It is just rounder.
Hope that helps.

i agree with what has been said so far. The "small" neck is smaller, but in the spectrum of necks, it is still rather large. I found it very comfortable, but I like vintage Martin and Gibson necks.

I have a WL-14 and a WL-12 with the “small” necks. As already mentioned, they’re not really small, just rounder. I prefer them to the V neck shape.

My WL-S has a very slight V, but it feels smaller than my WL-14 and WL-12.

I’m really hooked on the Waterloos.

I'm not sure what neck I have on my waterloo. But it's nice and slim. Feels similar to a taylor neck as far as girth. I'm not a baseball neck kind of guy

Differnt necks ?
This is news to me.

I have a Waterloo WL-12 bought in November 2016.
as far as I can tell it has a rounded "C" profile.
It has opened up very nicely but although it is supposed to have a 1 & 3/4" nut width it is slightly under and as I usually play wider necks, I'm really having trouble with the thin neck and considering selling it on.

Are these "newer" necks wider ?

I have a WL-14 with the larger neck, and it is big. I haven’t loved big necks in the past, but for some reason this is one of my favorite neck shapes ever.

I have the smaller neck profile on a WL-14xtr, as others have said, not all that small but darn comfortable and for me much easier to get around.
