Favorite Collings tonewood combo
Re: Favorite Collings tonewood combo
For me the best Collings combo is a Sitka top with EIR back and sides. Sitka top with hog back and sides is a very close second!

What they have done with mahogany and adirondack is pretty special.

I like Adirondack better because it works for me. I like the look of the wood and the sound it makes

I like sitka and cherry wood best right now.

All mahogany for me, but my experience is limited.
I have just the one, which arrived yesterday.
A new 001 Mh 12-fret Traditional

My favourite wood combinations for guitars these days are the Adirondack tops and mahogany back and sides. This is what I like now. I have a OM1a-jl and this works perfectly for me. My other Collings is a D1A varnish with the same wood combos

Congrats on the new hog-top traditional!
I wish I were able to play a large number of Collings guitars so I could have an opinion. I have only played Adi or Sitka tops, and mostly mahogany models. Would love to try models with German tops. Would love to try maple back and sides. Plus Brazilian. And so on.
My favorite wood combo in general these days is Adi and mahogany. But I also have a Sitka topped 001 14 fret, and a dread, that are super sweet.
