Braces
Braces
I have recently purchased 2 Collings acoustics(om1mhsb and 01sb). Both have rattles, rumbles that are similar. Weird. I'm no luthier but it seems like a loose brace. Sounds like upper bout, treble side(?). Are loose braces common on these guitars?

Re: Braces
Loose braces are most improbable. How old are these guitars? Did you buy them used?

Re: Braces
Sounds transmit across guitars really well. A sound can be generated in one place but mostly heard in a distant other.
On more than one guitar with a rattle, it turned out to be a washer or bushing on a tuner. The sound seemed to be coming from the main body while it really was coming from the headstock.

Re: Braces
Never had, or heard of, loose braces on Collings.
Re: Braces
Could be one of many things, I bought a used Collings that had an old K&K pickup... the many wires were bouncing around like craz.
You probably need a luthier to take a look, can't imagine a loose brace. like Frank said, a loose tuner could do it. etc etc
Best wishes for a swift remedy and welcome to the forum. bert

Re: Braces
i had a rattle only once - on a scgc. reached in with the proper tool and found the truss rod was fully loose. tightened it to snug and rattle gone.
Re: Braces
A rattle on a Collings guitar is relatively rare, 2 Collings guitars rattling would be a first. Are these guitar new ?
Re: Braces
The fact you have two rattling guitars is weird.
I have had only one instance of a buzz or rattle on a Collings and I traced it down pretty quickly. It started after a string change and as I suspected, one of the ball ends was not snug against the end pin, leaving a small length of wire to vibrate when I dug in with a pick.
Probably not your problem. Definitely have a tech look into it.
Not to be facetious here, but can anyone other than you hear the rattle?
