I am looking to buy a used Collings 12 fret, slope shoulder dreadnought guitar with a slotted headstock. The models I am considering are the DS1A and DS2H.
I would prefer the guitar and case to be in excellent to mint condition with no major repairs or defects.
A good quality pickup professionally installed is an acceptable modification.
Thank you for your time.

It sounds like you're in the market for a used Collings 12 fret, slope shoulder dreadnought guitar with a slotted headstock, specifically considering the DS1A and DS2H models. Your preference is for the guitar and case to be in excellent to mint condition, with no major repairs or defects. Additionally, you're open to the guitar having a good quality pickup professionally installed.

When purchasing a used guitar like this, it's essential to thoroughly inspect the instrument for any signs of wear, damage, or modifications that may affect its playability or value. Ensure that the seller provides detailed information about the guitar's condition, including its history, maintenance, and any modifications made.

If buying online or from a distant location, requesting comprehensive photos and a detailed description can help you make an informed decision. Lastly, if possible, try to play the guitar or hear it being played before finalizing your purchase, especially considering the significant investment involved in acquiring a high-quality instrument like a Collings guitar.

Thanks for the good info. I still haven't found one I want (or can afford).

It is difficult to buy these instruments on-line without a "hands on" experience. Most Collings guitars represent a sizeable investment so careful consideration is always a requirement.

I always try to establish a good relationship with the seller or buyer before I finalize any deal. Some back and forth messaging will usually reveal what kind of person you are involved with when making a purchase or sale from a distance. If I get any hesitations for information, I usually end the interaction with the other party.
So far, I have not had a deal go bad or received an instrument that I wasn't pleased to play and own. I am hoping to keep all my transactions in that category.

In the end, I am more worried about the shipping conditions causing some damage to these instruments.

Thanks for your time and take care out there.
