Six and a half years of Collings.net
Re: Six and a half years of Collings.net
It would be a shame to see the forum dissolved. Though I do understand the time and financial responsibilities. I hope you can hang in there.

Indeed. It’s still the best music site around.

Re: Six and a half years of Collings.net
Hi folks.
Regarding this forum. I own three Collings Dreads, an 0002h and an 002h , oh, and a Waterloo WL12, so I am guilty like of not patronisngtis frum as much as maybe I should.
For that - my apologies.
I suspect that many fora have now gone to Facebook, but why Zuckerberg should get the traffic I dunno.
So, I applaud and thank the folks who have gone to the trouble of creating this forum, and I will gladly contrtibutermore - if yu wish, although be warned some of my questions might be daft ...like this one ::::
My most recent purchase is my 1998/9 002h.
It was received in 2023 and cosmetically it is fine, although the finish is not as "perfect" as my later Collings.
Now in '24 I sufferedca sudden and profound hearing loss which means I ow have powerful Hearing aides in both ears -albeit very different from ear to ear.
My002h looks and plays fine, but I can't "hear it" as well as I can hear my Eastman E40-00 and I really wonder whether if Collings guitar tonality has changed or improved between 1998/9 and, say 2003 ?
Thoughts folks ?

Re: Six and a half years of Collings.net
I have let this post sit for a little over a week but alas no replies.
It is too little too late I think for this forum. This dinosaur that used to be the life of Collings is now just fossil remains of what once was.
Facebook is the place to be to discuss Collings and post videos of your playing. There is no way to see the entirety of the FB archival content at a glance but it seems to be what works best for people. They make thousands a month from it no doubt but it is the way that things have gone.
We should be happy that there is a place for such spirited playing and discussions. I encourage people to use that site for interactions.
I have funded the forum for another year and will evaluate again next year. For now, we are still here. No regrets.

Thanks, Frank. I usually check the forum once/week and select the "Active Topics" link. Recently, there were none. So, I held off checking and missed Silly's recent post.
I regret that I don't have any knowledge or info to answer his query. Perhaps that points to another category: users might read a post but be unable to contribute/add to the discussion, but the forum is still alive.
Thank you for keeping it up for another year. I have seen that FB has become more active (e.g., for G&L guitars, another I follow). Personally, I chose in summer of '25 to completely terminate my FB account and remove all my posts (about 15 years' worth) because I disagree with Mr. Zuckerberg about many things.

A wise choice Mouse. FB or whatever it’s called today does more harm than good.uponamouse wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2026 8:22 pm Thanks, Frank. I usually check the forum once/week and select the "Active Topics" link. Recently, there were none. So, I held off checking and missed Silly's recent post.

Re: Six and a half years of Collings.net
So I’m just tuning into this post and this Forum. I miss the old Collings Forum, and I’ve been considering that question of why should FB/Zuckerberg get all the traffic??
No shade to moderators over there on FB, because I know they are Collings fans, but there are some disadvantages to FB. I find it better to have a site like this, similar to UMGF, because it’s easier to search and connect and chat through all things Collings and get dialogue and questions answered. Finding previous posts on FB of Collings topics of interest to me seems more difficult. Sometimes the older posts, which might have some value, are difficult if not impossible to find. It’s sometimes like there is no continuity in the Collings groups on FB to find deeper content. In the end I find the posts often seem to lack depth and perspective compared to what I can find on UMGF and the old Collings Forum. Also, I find FB sometimes presents old posts as if they are new, and I wonder, have I seen this before?? Then I dig-in and realize, perhaps because of the way the algorithms work, I get sucked in. The effect is that FB just seems to just draw me in and use my time vs helping me to be efficient with my time. That’s model of social media right? Keep the users stuck-in to it so that it drives social media ad revenue and addiction to social media.
So, as a replacement to the old Forum, this one has been hobbled because of the mass exodus to FB after the old Collings Forum disappeared. I admit I’ve had a user name here on the new forum for some time but have barely posted. Maybe it’s high time to invest in this site and build content here as it’s devoted to the Collings community, has better search capability, and possibly could have more in depth interaction that would be of benefit to everyone.
