Ranren.... there were no Collings T guitars in the '90s...... the series started around 2017.

Thanks, Greg.
Keep me straight on all Collings data. What did Bill call a dark tobacco burst?

That’s too bad. I like what the Ts have to offer, but really want an older Collings; so I don’t have to wait for aged tone as arthritic hands may not allow me to play ten years from now.

Randall, I'm pretty sure the dark sunburst is a style 2. I've only had one a D1a.... & we didn't call it anything. I called Collings and sent them a photo of my friend's 1937 D-18 shadetop....& they copied it.
The D3 model would have the bound neck and headstock (& abalone rosette)

my CJ Mh Sb dates from 2003 and depending on the lighting, the color changes. Naturally, the color is close to tobacco.

I certainly understand the desire to protect your investment but I really buy guitars for my personal enjoyment. I can't be bothered worrying about what others might think of improvements that i feel will make my guitars more playable for me.

Thanks, Bob.
I feel as you do and if this year model 2000 Adi topped Martin sounded at least close to my Sitka 2008 D2H-SB then I wouldn’t have been concerned—since I know I’d be keeping it for a good long while, but it doesn’t sound anywhere as good. Which means I’ll likely be selling it sometime in the near future and also means I really shouldn’t be messing around with it. Howbeit, like I said, I feel the same way you do, so went ahead and put in bridge slots, screwed in a neck heel strap button and switched out the pick guard, as well.

That’s not to say the Martin sounds bad because it actually sounds pretty darn good when compared to other modern Martins.
This new to me 2008 Collings has ruined my previous perception of what can be expected out of a modern guitar.
Thanks, Bill!

Any body here wanna trade a Collings D1AT-SB for a blemish free 23 year old Martin LSV; that likely doesn’t sound as good as their trade? 😁

I’ve been looking for a hog Collings at a decent deal, but haven’t yet found one. When I do there’s gonna be an LSV for sale that has been tampered with—slightly.

So okay, I’ve lost a few collector type buyers, but likely have gained more player type buyers. At least, that’s what I told myself.

Thanks for the info, Greg!
I’ll be looking hard for one, but so far haven’t seen any older ones with a dark burst.

The good news is that there are many players who believe that the sun rises and sets in Nazareth. You'll have interested buyers.

Here’s an interesting and shocking bit of news:
Last night I talked to a seller on Craig’s list about a 2010 Martin D-18 GE with a dark burst. He talked me outta buying it!
I had told him I was hoping his Martin had an exceptional sound, but was actually looking for a Collings with the same specs as his GE and he said, “well, then you won’t be happy with this Martin.” I thanked him for his honesty and we talked a good bit longer.
As the years go by I think more and more folks are finally starting to see the light. The light that the folks at Collings are shining through each box sold. Takes a while to change folks.
I’ve owned a great sounding luthier built custom for 27 years and thought I was happy till I finally, and luckily found this exceptional Collings. All Collings I’ve played sound great, but I think this one is one of the many “better ones”.

So now, here’s a loaded question on a Collings forum:
What do you all think about the notion of me buying a mahogany Bourgeois with dark burst—so I can say I have 4 guitars from top brands and one builder?
Is it possible for an 18 style Bourgeois to sound good enough to hold the place of a comparable Collings?
