I am the proud custodian of a Collings D2H built in 2000 to cover the dark side with its Rosewood B&S.

On the other side of things I have a wonderful Martin D18V built by the Martin Custom Shop in 2004 from a beautiful piece of Quilted Mahogany.

Hello ? Hi, anybody here ? No ?
OK, I'll talk to myself.

Dreadnought - one of my Collings 12 fret dreads, but not sure which, either my DS2h or my DS1 or my DS1ASB. Difficult choice.

No.2 ? Tricky again, either my 0002h or for home noodling and teaching - maybe a 002h that has avoided me to date. If I could get one I might even part with my Eastmans, not sure about that!

There, OK/ Hello?

I'll get my coat and see myself out.

Don't be silly, oh wait you are Silly. Ok then it is ok. I am the Collings Forum Auto Bot responding to your post:

This thread is perhaps revealing a great deal about the wide range of personal preferences. When I originated it, I thought it would be a smattering of randomness. Instead, it shows some trends.

So far there have been proclivities toward short scales, slopes, fingerstyle, electric, small but not tiny, rosewoods, mahognany, others, etc. What stands out is, the D, in some iteration, is still king here and elsewhere.

Dreads were supposedly introduced in the early 1910s but did not catch on. They were not accepted until decades later with the introduction by manufacturers like Martin and Gibson in the 1930s. For 20 years they languished and now they are the go to for most. Have people gotten larger and desire bigger guitars? Has their tonal taste changed? Have the songs performed by our favorite artists conditioned our ears which drives us to buy and play what they did?

So I am off soliloquizing or is that apostrophizing now that SM has left the room?

Seems for every question, there are twenty more.

I’d keep my 2022 OM1AT and PWGC Model D. If only one ?………I don’t have to decide now. It would be difficult.

Relegated to two guitars, the decision would be tough as I only buy what I consider world-class instruments. That said, a definite keeper is my 2021 Lowden Custom F50 Ancient Cuban Mahogany & Sitka. The second would be tough but, since I would need at least one performance guitar, #2 would have to be my McPherson MG3.5. One is angelic and the other is a magnificent/magic stage (and studio) guitar. Luckily, I could grab any two, in an emergency, and be happy. Okay on further reflection........ I'll need two at my vacation house... 😛

For there I'll keep my CJ45 AT and Applegate SJ. 😎

Well, I'd want to have one of my Collings Dreads, so I guess it would be my 2007 Ds2h.
The other , maybe my recently acquired '99 002h .... but I'd sorely miss my '03 0002h, and I'd lose a quarter of my repertoire if I couldn't have my Martin D12-20/35 custom.
