I am thinking seriously about selling one of my Collings and listing it here on the Forum first. How has selling here has worked out for others. Sounds like its recommended to use a 3rd party for the money transaction but who would that be?

Not sold here but have done successfully on other sites (Reverb, Gear Page etc). I rely on PayPal: Goods and Services (not Friends and Family) and that's worked well for both me and other party. Think the biggest challenge here is the relatively low level of traffic at the moment, so you may not get as many eyes on it as you'd like.

Thanks for the response. I have used Reverb quite a bit, but it ends up costing about 7% to sell. I was wondering about how many I would reach on this site. May just have to pay the higher sales commission.

If you're looking to sell guitars on the Collings Forum (specifically for Collings, Waterloo, or related high-end acoustic/electric instruments), here’s a step-by-step guide and some best practices to do it effectively and respectfully:

Be sure to read the forum rules, especially for the Classifieds section.

Engage genuinely in discussions to build credibility before listing.
✅ 3. Posting in the Classifieds

Navigate to the Classifieds section.
Choose the appropriate subcategory (e.g., Acoustics for Sale, Electrics for Sale, etc.).
Click “New Topic” to create your listing.

📸 Photos Help Sell
Include clear, well-lit images of the front, back, sides, neck, headstock, and any blemishes.
Use Imgur or a similar hosting site if the forum doesn’t allow direct uploads.
🔐 Be Honest and Transparent
Clearly describe any imperfections or repairs.
Be upfront about shipping costs, payment methods, and return policies (if any).
🔁 Follow Up
Mark the item as SOLD when it’s gone.
Thank interested buyers and keep communication professional.
⚠️ Avoid These Mistakes
Posting without photos or a price.
Not responding to PMs or inquiries.
Bumping your ad too frequently (check forum rules on bumping).
If you'd like, I can help draft your ad or even format a listing if you give me the guitar details.
