What’s your earliest Collings?

I’ve got #356. It’s an OM. Collings didn’t put any designations on the label then. This one has an abalone rosette and no inlay on the fingerboard. Tuners have been changed to gold Waverlys. It’s had a top crack repaired. It sounds huge and plays great.

I had an old (not the recent ones) C-100 at one point that was probably the oldest I ever owned. That or a D2HBbG that was an oldie (finest sounding and playing guitar I have ever owned). I'll see if I can find the serial numbers somewhere.

Wow I feel like a newbee. My D2H #8xxx was finished in 2,000.

Of course, that means it is now over 20 years old.

That would be my '99 D-1 I bought new at Gryphon. INCREDIBLE guitar!

The top was white when I bought it.

I've always admired that photo of your D-1 Bill, it looks like a great aging guitar ought to. I don't have my first Collings any more, a D-1a vintage neck with diamonds and square on the fretboard and a dalmatian pickguard, started in '99 and delivered in January of 2000, but I do have this D1a (vintage neck, varnish) with a stunning figured brazilian headstock overlay and a shell pickguard delivered in 2009.

Wow. My 3/99 D1A seems young by comparison. S/N is somewhere in the high 4000’s.

I've owned #1530, a lefty D2H from '95, 3 times so far. I have first dibs if the current owner ever sells it and if it comes back it won't leave again.

According to the tables mine is a ‘92, but Collings says it was likely late ‘91.
I’ll try to get some pics up.
