Hi - I was wondering if any of you have/had/played a PWGC guitar. And if so, what are your opinions on them. I've been doing some research and seem to be getting some mixed reviews. Thanks!

Check the Martin guitar forum (“UMGF”). Lots of opinions and most very positive.

Good luck!

BAR,

It’s good to see you back here. You’ve asked a good question. While I hadn’t put much thought into PW guitars, they seem to be all the rage. Yet I see quite a few used ones up for sale. I guess that happens with all brands.

Were you playing an old D18? If so, do you still have it and how has that experience been?

Hi Eric - I had a '39 D18 but had to sell it for home repairs. I sorely miss that guitar. I now have a Collings D1T and a Collings OM2HT. Both are fabulous guitars. Just miss the vintage vibe.

I think the Pre-war company does the best job of capturing the sound and overall feel of a great pre war Martin guitar and Gibson guitar. I have two of them, a dreadnought BRW and a OM 28. They are slightly aged and sound really nice.

Bill Collings did not set out to produce guitars that sound like early Martins or Gibsons. He wanted to produce his own sound. Most of us here love it. Others are critical because it doesn't sound enough like an early Martin or Gibson.

Pre-War Guitar set out to produce guitars that do sound like those vintage guitars. If that is the sound you are looking for their guitars will get you closer than anything Collings make.
