Re: First Post & NGD - D1A

Congratulations and welcome. That's a beautiful guitar.

The key phrase in your post is: "my first Collings". If you're like many of the folks here it won't be your last.
See Collings guitars are sort of like potato chips. You can't stop at just one.

Stay safe and keep on pickin'.

Re: Collings Acoustics and Old Strings

I used to be in a rush to declare my strings too old to play and change them out. A couple of years ago out of laziness I slowed that down. Not 7 years slow but closer to a year. I still love the sound of my guitars. My house stays at a fairly constant temperature and humidity so my guitars stay in ...

Re: NGD: 000H ss cut

Congratulations. That is a beautiful guitar. I hope that it brings you many years of joy and pleasure. If you always play with a strap then, of course, you'll want a strap button installed. It will in no way diminish the beauty of your guitar nor lesson the value. Be sure to follow the placement rec...

Re: pre/post 2013?

That sounds like sellers puffery to me. Collings like any concerned specialty product maker continuously makes refinements in its products. These tend to be incremental not revolutionary. I have not seen any of the members here rushing to trade in their pre2013 guitars on later builds of the same mo...

Re: D1A Special

Bill Collings was funny about changing specs on his guitars in ways that might make them less durable. Without confirmation from Austin I'd be skeptical that the top or back were thinner than normal. I agree with Mark's speculation. Those are things that Bill and the guys often did per dealer orders...

Congratulations!!! There is not much better than connecting with a guitar that touches where this one apparently touches you. I hope you enjoy playing it for many years.

Re: Guitar Strap by Collings

Bill Collings and Bob Taylor were friends or at least as friendly as rivals can be. The folks at the factory in Austin told us about that when they showed us a specialized clamp that was developed by Taylor and used by the Collings factory.

Re: Pickup Install on a D2H

What Bruce did is the most common solution.
The mini jack will replace the end pin with no drilling.
Adding a pin on the neck is very common and should not impact the value of your guitar at all. Indeed Collings even has a diagram showing the ideal location for the strap pin.

Re: Why so little discussion on the City Limits models?!

I'm reminded of some of the discussions on the acoustic forums wondering why a Collings doesn't sound more like a Vintage Martin.
