It is a gorgeous guitar, but I totally agree with you. When you spend that kind of money, you have to get exactly what you believed you were purchasing. KUDOS to Collings for stepping up and doing the right thing. The TOTAL antithesis of Gibson Guitars. Bought a Gibson CL-50 in 1999 that turned out to be a total lemon. Two trips back to the factory and it was still buzzing! They would NOT stand behind their product and give me a full refund. They lost a customer forever. I was able to get some help from Stan Jay (god bless his soul and RIP) who intervened and brokered a deal with Gibson.
