New forum member, first time poster..

I’m looking to dive into the world of small shop builds and have narrowed my search down to Collings after many days and weeks of reviews and videos. I found that the D1A or D1AT is what fits the bill for me. My first preference would be the D1AT but am open to see what you guys/gals had to offer in the D1A as well as a 2nd option. Hopefully I’ll be hearing from you all soon. Happy Holidays!

Welcome Ryan! You are probably going to get many opinions for one reason alone; they are both really great guitars.

Before the release of the T series, the D1A would be considered by many as the quintessential dreadnaught guitar. It was the best. Now with the release of the D1AT, half of the folks (not a scientific study) favor the T variation. The T moves the guitar just a pinch toward a more Martin characteristic play and sound. This is not bad. It is just different.

The best is to get your hands on both and give them a go but both are winners in the dreadnaught space.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. It does seem that people are favoring the T series for its more vintage sound. My only concern would be the neck as I understand it’s substantially beefier. These guitar are hard to find it general, much less having the ability to compare both in person. That’ s the obstacle I’m facing. I do hope and look forward to anyone who comes to me with any options.

If you're still in the market, my bandmate is selling one of these.
