I have a D1A varnish that I will not part with. It sounds absolutely phenomenal.I bought it used and every time I play it, I’m just amazed at the tone and response Now I just played a Collings with Brazilian rosewood with Adirondack top a while ago that I did not like. The tone was muffled or just not right to my ears.

I have a D1A varnish, with the vintage now neck and string spacing, that I will not part with. It sounds absolutely phenomenal.I bought it used and every time I play it, I’m just amazed at the tone and response Now I just bought a a Collings with Brazilian rosewood with Adirondack top a while ago that I did not like. Thank fully, my guitar shop took it back. The tone was muffled or just not right to my ears. In general though, the varnish finish can make a difference. Even the Eastwood guitars offer varnish as well. Bourgeois offered the varnish finish as well

I picked up a CJ-35 varnish a few months ago and just can't get enough of it. The tone is amazing! There really is something extra in the tone that I haven't encountered in nitro finish guitars. I'm definitely hoping to get more varnish finish Collings guitars in the future!

same here. I still get surprised each time I strum it for the first time after not playing for a few days.
