After demoing multiple OM1AJLs for the past year, I finally bought one. I have never been an OM superfan, but these Julian Lage guitars are something otherworldly. I actually think it might be the best guitar that Collings makes right now. In previous years, I've only played 1 3/4" nuts coupled with the Vintage Now neck profile. I went with the 1 11/16 neck carve on my JL and adore it. I tend to play a lot of electric guitar, so the 1 11/16 nut feels like home base. I'm actually ripping a lot faster, and making less mistakes than I might on a 1 3/4 nut. I can't believe I delayed buying one of these for so long. Easily the most inspiring guitar I've purchased in recent years.

I totally agree! I am so used the vintage now profile on my D1A, but I bought my OM 1 JL (sitka) used with the 1 11/16th profile and it is now my favorite BY FAR. I can play so much faster and cleaner and the profile fits my hand perfectly. This guitar is such a joy to play and is so loud, lively, resonant and woody. I agree, I think this is the best guitar Collings is making. It doesn't sound much like the 3 other traditional OM's I have owned. It is something entirely different (at least mine is).

Even though the Julian neck carve is unique to that guitar, I am now thinking about getting a Traditional D in the 1 11/16 nut width. I think part of the Julian magic is in the finish. If I could get a D1AT in that finish my collection might be complete.

Funny you should say that. The JL has made me switch back to 1 11/16 on my other guitars. In fact I can't wait to go home to a new D1AT with a narrow nut that just arrived today!

For some reason Collings won't do a Waterloo finish on their other guitars. Hopefully that will change down the line.

Please post about your D1AT, especially thoughts on the neck once you've had some time with it.

Hello new forum! I am also enamored with the JL model's 1 11/16" neck carve. Its made me rethink my preference for 1 3/4." I feel like they made this model just for me. So light, so full of life, so versatile, perfect neck, mahogany goodness. I have the sitka top, sweet. If anyone gets a D1T or D2T with the 1 11/16" neck I would also love to hear a review. Does the neck feel anything like the JL?

Alright so I've had about two hours with the new T dread. The neck starts out slim like the JL but does not feel as flat in first position. The T neck overall has more of a V shape which the JL as you know does not at all. The V starts around the the third fret and gets more chunky as I approach the twelfth fret but nothing like the original Traditional models with the proverbial baseball bats.

I didn't know how much I missed a Collings dread and it's only been a few months since I sent away my last 1 3/4" dread and OM for commission.

I just peeked at the Collings website which lists the standard series mod V neck starting out with 0.855" to 0.950" whereas Traditional goes from 0.815" to 1.015" which confirms what I am feeling, skinny to chunky. The Julian Lage goes from 0.829" to 0.970".

Do you like the neck? I wonder if they would do the JL neck carve on the D1AT. Hmmm Doubtful.

I do. Don’t get me wrong, the V is subtle but it’s the main difference I wanted to point out. I would love a JL version of dread but doubt it would happen too. On the otherhand it’s a very successful model.

Or one could always have the T neck reshaped
