Just for the record — the luthier, tech and dealer (and me) do not think it’s a fret buzz. But agree it can be coming from just about anywhere, and the sound seems like it comes from the lower bout/bridge area. I really don’t notice it at all while playing. It’s just peculiar. About half the Collings owners I’ve checked in with seem to recognize the sound. I don’t consider this to be a big deal, but I am curious about the cause/reason.

A wise choice

I have an OM2HG. Less than a year old. I too get strange sounds but mainly from G, B, and skinny E. They don't need to be fretted to get the strange sound.
Just pluck them with your finger. The sound is almost like a fret buzz brittle sound.....and that's with no fretting at all. Doesn't matter what strings I've tried so far.
My thought has been that something is wrong with the bridge, but that's just a knee jerk reaction to what I'm hearing. My hope is that over time it will improve or go
away completely, but that's just a knee jerk reaction to sad situation. I'll wait a month or two more and if it doesn't get better, I'll make a visit to Collings.

That sounds like it might be a simple setup issue that could be handled inexpensively by a local tech. Worth checking out with a local repair shop.

Maybe it's a signature sound ? Loose truss rod (don't know if Collings has one) or maybe a tuner washer issue ?

I've given up looking for any hidden socks on my Gibson, I just attribute the signature sound to the builder.

If you're really worried, bring it to a tech and let them troubleshoot and pinpoint the possible problem.

I am also attempting to figure out this buzz, though mine seems to be limited to the low E (6th). I'm working on the setup currently and am going to try a custom light string, dropping from 12-53 to 11-52. I'll follow-up in a couple days regarding whether the smaller gauge helps. I have the relief maxed and it hasn't helped. I am only getting the buzz when using a pick.
