I have never heard of anyone wishing to remove the label from a Collings. It is one of the things most Collings owners are proud of.

That said, if it makes you happy go for it.

Kind of related?

I have 4 Yeti Tundra coolers. I removed the black and white 'Yeti' labels from all of them. I like the way they look without them. Plus, like a guitar, there are other markings that say 'Yeti.' Like the Collings headstock.

That said, I have two Collings guitars - an SJ and an OOO-2H. Their labels will stay. I just can't imagine anyone but me, would ever want to look inside the sound hole.

The moral of this story? Once you buy something, it's yours. Your property. Knock yourself out, dude!

I'd never remove a label with Bill's signature--pretty much like having an autographed guitar by someone I think the most important luthier of my time. But the newer labels? To me they're just labels, and if I felt they needed to go to make the guitar look better: well they'd go.

The resale element mentioned above is also interesting. I have no doubts that you intend to keep this guitar forever, but I've said that about 80% of the guitars I've owned, and felt so firmly, until one day another offer hit my lap and they were sold.
ditto, ditto, ditto.

Well, I guess you might as well remove the label on the headstock too.

martin labels, on the other hand... i mean, cf4? he's a marketeer, not a luthier:) true, there are often worthier signatures on "this month's" martin "limited edition," whatever that may be.

^^^ THIS.

Also, I guess the OP never saw the video of Bill painstakingly creasing the label so they fit perfectly. .... ?

I think he understands clearly enough by now, if not before, that some people don't agree with his decision to remove the label. What I think we should respect is the fact that each guitar owner is free to make their axes their own, and I'm 100% certain that Bill would have agreed with that sentiment. If he hadn't started the thread himself, on a public forum, in effect asking for comments, we'd probably leave this alone. But because this thread exists, a "roast" isn't entirely out of the question. Let's just keep it respectful.

I think we've all been very respectful and affirming of the heretic.
