I dropped by Gryphon yesterday and was blown away by a 1996 Collings D-3 they had for sale.
A couple strums and the deal was done. It's still in their shop at the moment while they install a K&K pup.
The guitar is in pristine condition and I am one VERY happy guy! It joins my 1999 D-1 and 2014 D2HA along with some Martins in my stash.
Can't wait to bring this one home!

I have a 1996 D3 that I have played actively for the last 20+ years and one comment I
remember was “you couldn’t have a better guitar. I hope yours sounds as good as mine.

Rechecked the serial number (2252) and it looks like this one was built in 1995, not 1996 as Gryphon advertised.
I've been playing it nonstop and it is a KILLER guitar!
