Lacquer Adhesion issues?

Hi All- There was a post on that other forum where someone had an issue with lacquer chipping off the neck on a recent T model. His comment was that he was thrilled with Collings excellent customer service (which we all know it is). Another poster mentioned that they had heard directly from Mark A. at Collings that this was a known issue on some recent models. Not sure what models, timeframe, etc. and so I asked but have not seen any further response. As the owner of a 2020 D1ATS, I was wondering if in fact anyone in this group has had any problems with lacquer adhesion on your recent Collings? Mine has had no issues.

i've only seen it reported/photographed once - it was a dealer that didn't know that collings did poly finish on standard-model necks, not nitro. it was a spot on the neck that had lifted. probably was dinged. this was at the interface of the fingerboard and the mahogany.... so could have been initiated by movement due to change in humidity.

No problems. Several OM1T, OM2HT, OM1Mh from 2015 to the present, with no finish issues whatsoever.

I don't have any problems with my 001 T. I don't know what year it is though.

the T has a lacquer neck, i think. if so, i wouldn't expect that kind of de-lamination, at least collings-made!:)

I’ve actually got it going on both of mine (2018 and 2020 T Models). Starting off small, but starting to flake where the neck meets the fingerboard on both sides. I’ll reach out to Collings soon to see what they say.

I'm currently dealing with this on a 2018 D-2H-AT. I purchased the guitar mid-2022, with the purchase carrying quite the price tag.

Basically, the issue I'm seeing is that the lacquer is bubbling off on the fret ends along the sides of the fingerboard and one location on the backside of the neck. The occurrence is somewhat related to the instrument drying out over the winter months, though there is a definite build error factor going on too. It really sucks, especially if it is a sign of things to come, which it looks to be.

As of today, Collings has offered to pay for shipping and repairs, with a time estimate of no less than 90 days once they receive the instrument. The rep for Collings further stated it is a really involved repair. I can only imagine that this includes a full neck removal and the use of solvents.

It's worth noting that I have a 2013 00-2H in the same environment, to include the same neck and fingerboard woods, that has shown no signs of a similar defect.

Can't say I like the idea of shipping it from Maine to Texas. Nor the idea of what the repair entails.
